Dominican Republic Mission

Mission Statement of the Ecumenical Mission to the Dominican Republic

“A joyful heart is good medicine.” - Philippians 4:6

We are an interdenominational group of dedicated Christian volunteers. We are physicians, physician’s assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, clergy, technicians, interpreters, engineers, students, and the support personnel for all of the above. We come together to share our love and concern for the poor, the sick, and those in need in the Dominican Republic. We provide healing prayer and primary health care to those who otherwise could not afford it. But most importantly, we are a Mission of Love, Hope and Spiritual Healing which we bring to our siblings in the Dominican Republic.

The Ecumenical Mission to the Dominican Republic was started in 1999 by The Very Reverend William Small, interim rector at that time at St. Eustace. The team’s base is St. Eustace, but it is blessed with Christians from many different denominations. It is currently coordinated by Robin Baxter, RN of St. Eustace. The mission team works in cooperation with the Episcopal Diocese of the Dominican Republic (Iglesia Episcopal Dominicana).

The team currently works in the village of Gautier, outside of Boca Chica, with the parish of St. Thomas.

The funding for the mission is provided solely through monetary donations and supplies from churches, service organizations, businesses, friends and families. Team members pay for their own airfare and accommodations.

In addition to St. Eustace, the other churches represented for 2025 are: Christ Church, Episcopal, Ballston Spa, NY; St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Bedford, NY; St. John’s Episcopal Church, Hollywood, FL; St. James’s Episcopal Church, Wilmington, NC.

The 2025 mission will be the twenty-sixth mission.
